Mark Banner (Standard8) has been working on Thunderbird’s Address Book component for the TB3 release. (Download TB 3 beta 2 to check it out.) He’s written new documentation that will help extension developers access and manipulate the Address Book:
Address Book Examples: how-tos and snippets
Address Book Interfaces: an overview of the interfaces
These are published in the Thunderbird extension section of the Mozilla Developer Center.

Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting.
I’d love this. TBird has burned me more than once with its ’suggest an address’ feature. I’d really like learning if its possible to turn that off.
That’s great, now where the hell is the version 2 address book documentation? People might still need it…
Unfortunately it’s not feasible for us to document 2.0 implementations at this point.
